Our Story
We are two women who understand what it feels like to be misunderstood, labeled, and silenced by the world around you. Our personal journeys with healing trauma,(generational, childhood, ADHD, and autism) the beauty of unmasking has lead us here. We created UNMASKING to help provide support for others - just like you! The transformation it has had on our lives inspired us to share our stories and help others discover their truth through unmasking - If you or those you love, feel stuck in a cycle of self-doubt, overwhelm, and emotional exhaustion and dysregulation and you are ready to live in TRUTH... unmasking just might be what you need.
To create a safe space for anyone who wants to start their healing journey and needs support. We plan to have resources to help people get started . As well as a list of TRUSTED professionals in mental health, trauma, neurodiversity, nutrition, etc.
Hello my name is Heather Dianne, or as some of my favourite humans call me "Mrs. C". I have 3 adult children, 1 granddaughter and 4 golden retriever "kids". I am married to my best friend and I am proud to be his wife.
I have been an educator for over 20 years in various professional roles: principal, vice principal, counsellor, director and teacher. As a member of "THE LOST GENERATION" discovering that I have ADHD and Autism at the age of 49 transformed my life. I was finally able to connect to myself on a level of true understanding and self love.
As I face my past, my trauma and C-PTSD, I have found surrounding myself with people who truly love me, and cheer me on as I remove my masks, one at a time, and face my past traumas, has been pivotal in my journey. The people who show up for you during your DARKEST times are also the ones who will dance in the rain with you as you cleanse and heal.
Finding support groups and programs transformed my healing journey and meeting so many people on similar journeys who do not have support motivated me to create a space where anyone can come to find love and support. UNMASKING will probably be on the of the most difficult and rewarding experiences of your life.
A constant message in my life is the voice that speaks to me quietly, yet clearly telling me to SHARE, write my story so others can see that they are not alone in their shame or guilt and they do have the power within them to HEAL, to reveal their true AUTHENTIC self.
I’m Marcie Peterson—a mother of two young adults, a wife of over 12 years, and someone who spent much of her life caring for others in the healthcare system. As a Licensed Practical Nurse, I worked in hospital acute care, assisted living, home care, and with insulin pump companies. The thread that ran through all of it was connection—showing up for people, advocating, and making sure no one felt alone in their hardest moments.
Eventually, my path shifted toward nonprofit work, where I found deep purpose in building community connections and learning every facet of what it takes to support people from a grassroots level. But the real unmasking began after the loss of my father, Martin Peterson, in October 2020. That’s when I took a brave step inward. With the help of my psychologist, I began peeling back the stories I had told myself just to survive. Slowly, I started to see my authentic self—not the one shaped by expectations or roles, but the one underneath.
What surprised me most was how this healing work rippled out into my family. The more I spoke the truth—my truth—the more my children began to open up, too. There’s something powerful about modelling vulnerability and honesty. It creates a safe place for others to do the same. Unmasking, for me, isn’t just about self-discovery—it’s about liberation. And I’m still on that journey, one layer at a time.
